The reflections in the pond (above) caught my eye whilst we were out for a walk in the sunshine the other day. Clear skies at this time of the year generally result in a frost and the early morning sun catching this shoot on one of our azaleas (right) produced this shot.
... over the holiday period, with a mixture of grey damp days and some bright frosty ones.
I've spent a lot of time getting to terms with php so that I can upgrade the mailing aspects of the business website. It's mostly done now, but it has been quite frustrating at times!
... over the last few days, with some fine rain from time to time. Not over cold, but the damp makes it feel worse than it is.
I've made some progress with sorting out the new computer, but it's not resolved yet since I'm awaiting delivery of a new SSD. It transpires that the Buffalo SSD I have is not compatible with the latest motherboards, including the H81 in my new pc, so as a temporary fix, I've cloned the system onto an ordinary HDD. I can't believe how slow it is, even with an i7 processor and 16Gb of ram.
I have also made some progress with the Ricoh AP3800C repair which has been waiting for months to be resolved. The hard drive controller had stopped working and the only way I could use the printer was by disconnecting the HDD completely, thus removing some functionality from the copier. I tracked down a replacement controller board some time ago, but I've just been in a position to try it out. It was necessary to transfer the NVRAM and programme chips from the old board onto the replacement, since plugging in the whole unit just produced an error code. For now, it seems that the problem is fixed, but it needs some time to check that it's going to be reliable. When I get time I'll try to add some detail about this job onto the 3800 page of the website.
.... always results in a very busy spell, with so much to catch up on, even after a relatively short spell of absence such as this one.
Apart from the usual pile of washing and ironing, at this time of year it's the big leaf clean up operation which has been keeping us busy for the last few days. Fortunately the ground wasn't too wet, so much of the work could be done with the big mower; setting the blades high, it sucks up the leaves pretty efficiently.
When not out in the garden, I've been wrestling with a new PC base unit I picked up whilst in UK. My plan was to transfer the drives over from my previous unit and carry on .... but the hardware seems to have other ideas! The behaviour is very strange. At boot, the mother board only finds the system, which is on an SSD, about 25% of the time - the rest of the time it says no operating system is present. If it does find it, then all is fine. I've not got to the bottom of this strange behaviour yet, but it has been wasting a lot of my time trying to sort it out, so I hope a solution can be found soon!
It was cold and frosty yesterday morning, so I took the opportunity to put the contents of the freezer outside and defrost - it hadn't been done for two years so it was quite a task. By contrast, this morning is 6c and there's a fine mist in the air - wintery and not very pleasant to be honest.
Have you sampled any of the live recordings of choral music featured on the Moments Musicaux page of the website?
Or there's a Christmas Carol selection available here.
Michel - just an ordinary guy, I guess. A musician by trade and into 'techy' things as 'relaxation'. Originally from the UK, but resident in France for 13 years.
