...... this cactus was a present from our neighbours.  We have only had it a couple of years, and this is the first time it's flowered.  A pity I'm not there to see it for real!

This azalea is in a balconnière on our sun deck.  It's always a mass of flowers this time of year,  The flowers will be over by the time I get back home, alas.

A fairly easy-going morning ....

.... but I paid for it with a full-on afternoon!!  The weather was good although I saw very little of it from my window-less room.  I'll have to get used to that since I'm working here for the next two weeks.  It's not a picturesque part of town, but I'll keep an eye open for any possible shots for the blog.

Mong Kok, Hong Kong

... to end the long week end.  I spent the day wandering round old haunts such as this street (left) in Mong Kok, and I had a good long browse round the IT mall in Sham Shui Po.

Narrow streets festooned with hoardings are commonplace in Hong Kong.  Often there are street markets and throngs of people too, as in this photo taken in Sham Shui Po.

Some paperwork to prepare for work tomorrow now .......

Victoria Harbour Hong Kong
Hong Kong Island viewed across Victoria Harbour from TST

...... warm sunshine after the drizzle of yesterday.  My task for the day was to move to a different hotel.  This one is nearer the central hub of HK.  The air isn't that clear but the iconic view of Hong Kong Island across Victoria Harbour still looks pretty stunning.

The poor weather ......

..... forecast for yesterday arrived today, so it's been grey and drizzling all day.  Just as well I had no grand plans, so I've done a little upgrade to the CF3102 page, read the newspaper thoroughly and had a generally lazy day.  I finally slept through the night for the first time last night, too ..... it took two weeks to adjust fully - that's worse than usual, even for me!

... which suggested rain with some storms, it's been quite bright today.  Some paperwork this morning, lunch with a colleague and a wander along the riverside park this afternoon.  The high-rise flats against the backdrop of mountains is so typical of Hong Kong.

egret

This egret sat preening its feathers atop the fence for ages, seemingly oblivious to the many passers by who stopped to look or photograph.

It's also in the bottom right of the photo above.

Bugs everywhere

It seems I wasn't the only thing disabled by a bug yesterday, since my post on here appeared incomplete for some reason.  Anyway, it's sorted now - and I'm feeling more human than I did!  The long week end is a blessing, and it should enable me to get my strength back.  I have to move hotels on Sunday - just when I was getting settled into a routine here.  C'est la vie, I guess.

Uphill battle ....

.... the last couple of days against some dreaded lurgy I've managed to pick up.  Hoping I can shake it off for tomorrow.  It's quite a strain trying to be nice to people when you feel more than half dead and your nose is running like a tap!

A day of partial rest .....

.... is very much needed after a full week's work and not a lot of sleep.  The jet lag is improving at last, but still waiting for a full night's sleep, even after more than a week.  Paperwork this morning, but a free afternoon!!
It's a heavy, humid day today with storms forecast.  The cloud is covering the mountain tops behind the hotel (centre of picture).

There's colour everywhere you look in Hong Kong, as typified by this border.

A little out of the shot, some impressive orchids were growing, but I couldn't get close enough to get a decent photograph unfortunately.

... are typical of HK.  Not easy to handle with the jet lag but it should start to improve over the next few days.

A typical HK landscape in the photo shows the mountainous hinterland and the minimal flat coastal strip largely covered with high rise development.

Bougainvillea grows in great profusion in Hong Kong - seen here beside an elevated pedestrian walkway - another characteristic feature of the city.

Arrived in Hong Kong .....

..... after an eventful journey.  The taxi failed to pick me up and only after my good friend JP made a mad dash of 50 miles was I lucky enough to get my train to Paris.  Struggling with the jet lag so although it's 4am here I'm not able to sleep.  I'm not in a picturesque spot for the first couple of weeks, but I'll keep my eye open for some photo opportunites nonetheless.

.... it's a taxi, two coaches and a train just to get to CDG Airport from here!  I've packed the camera so hopefully some photos from Hong Kong will appear before long.

..... 34c shade temperature.  Not all the geraniums survived the winter under cover beside the pool, but most did and they are now back outi n their summer positions along the deck.  The pool water is up to 23c - a couple more days I would be tempted in, but alas I leave for Hong Kong tomorrow.  I'll wait for the day to cool a little before completing the mowing, I think.  At least most of the packing is done!
