February draws to a close ...

... and after a long damp month, with much less sunshine than usual, we have finally hap a couple of dry days and today has been wonderfully sunny, if cold.

In fact cold seems to be dominating the forecast for the next week or so.  The winter started mildly, but it seems to be dragging out with this late cold spell.  There is little real movement in the garden and the hedgerows, so it seems the plants are going to be late starting this spring.

Having said that, the winter pansies (left) look well in the sunshine, and the rosemary (above) is covered in pale blue flowers.

There has been quite a bit of wind over the last couple of days which has helped to dry things up a it, and I was able to get out and give the grass its first mow of the season this afternoon - a little later than it often is on account of the very wet month we've had.

A couple of days in London ...

... was required this week as I had to attend a conference.  Unfortunately it coincided with the coldest nights of the winter so far, with -6°c on the minimum thermometer.  Fortunately we left the heating on so there were no nasty surprises to greet our return.

A stroll round Chinatown and Trafalgar Square at dusk produced these shots.  A meal in the Chinese Buffet concluded the evening.
Our journey home was uneventful, and it was good to be able to enjoy home comforts once again.

A very unsettled spell ...

... of weather has marked the whole of February so far.  In recent days there have been some violent winds, but we have managed to escape relatively unscathed, fortunately.
Outside work has been limited as a consequence, but we did manage to cut a couple of trees and prepare them for firewood during a brief break in the storms.
I've focussed my attention on setting up an online shop (right) to feature some of our personalized printed items.  This has been quite a time consuming exercise, with some frustration at times, but it's beginning to take shape now and all the functions are working as they should.

Where did the time go?

I have been preoccupied with business matters recently, and a spell of damp weather has put a brake on things outside in the garden, although we did manage to prepare the poly-tunnel for the new season the other day, harvesting the last of the red peppers which have done amazingly well over the winter.

Curiously, these two different colours of camellia flowers are growing on the same plant.  I guess there must be a graft somewhere, although looking at the stems there is certainly no evidence of it.  In any event it's good to have such vibrant flowers at this time of the year.
