... this week. Apart from the usual routine, I've been kept occupied troubleshooting the Ricoh AP3800 again. After a lot of time learning and dismantling, it transpires the cyan toner pump has failed. The hunt is now on for a replacement. I've posted wanted ads on appropriate sites, but I suspect I will end up having to buy a scrap machine to get one. The main problem is you need to dismantle so much of the machine to get it out! For now, I've added some toner manually and disabled the toner end detection, so the machine is fine for any short run jobs until a replacement pump is located.
.... which began early as I had a dental appointment first thing. It was a very cold morning (-5C) and it was still below freezing when I returned so I tackled my most "unfavourite" job - namely defrosting the freezer! With the contents safely stored in the outdoor freezer temporarily, it was not quite as urgent a task as it might otherwise have been.
It's been a cloudless sky all day and the sunshine has been very welcome indeed, although the temperature has not really got above freezing in the shady areas of the garden. The forecast suggests we may get another dusting of snow tomorrow .... we shall see.
The amaryllis in the photo was a Christmas gift, and no doubt encouraged by the sunshine, it has opened its first flower during the day.
.... has brought a light dusting of snow this morning. It's a little above freezing though, so it's likely to melt quite quickly. Nonetheless, it has made the bird feeders extremely busy.
If you click on the photo to make it larger you'll be able to see a little more, but it's hard to capture the amount of activity in a still photo.
... although it began quite cold and there was some ice on the car when I had to go out first thing to take it for its annual service.
I've been busy preparing the 2012 edition of my photo-book; the layout is more or less done, so I'll be printing them off in the next day or so.
For the time being, however, I might just go an sit in this sunshine for a while .....
I've spent some time this morning creating an article summarizing my experiences following the HDD failure on my Ricoh AP3800CMF copier. I've added this article to the end of the 3800 page on the website - it includes some photos and a description of how to change the hard drive on the Ricoh AP3800C.
There have been some heavy showers today, but some sunny intervals between them have been welcome, nonetheless. It remains relatively mild (12c) although some colder air is forecast for the coming week.
.... and although it was chilly first thing (3c) it's not at all bad now.
The bird feeders are very busy this time of the year, and a recent addition to our collection has proved very popular indeed. I managed to source some peanuts on the net after searching locally with very little success. Hopefully this big sack will keep us going through the rest of the winter.
I finally solved the problem of the Ricoh 3800 hdd last night. In the end it proved to be the size of the drive that was critical to the copier functions, but not the printer. So any IDE drive from 20GB upwards seemed to keep the printer happy, but the copier section is unable to recognize anything except for a 40GB drive. Fortunately I still had a 40GB hdd in the back-up XP computer, so that has been transferred to the 3800. Spare 40GB drives are available very cheaply on Ebay, so I plan to pick up a spare to keep in the cupboard as insurance. Changing the drive is a very easy process - I'll endeavour to add something about it to the 3800 page in due course.
.... another encounter with the dentist this morning - just about my most "un-favourite" experience! Two more appointments to endure before the current problem is resolved, so I'm trying not to think about it too much.....
The weather has been still and grey these last few days - not over cold, but the absence of the sunshine makes it rather dismal and gloomy. High pressure usually brings clear skies and very cold nights this time of year, but it's been 100% cloud with this current anticyclone. At least the rain has let up, anyway.
I've spent quite a bit of time wrestling with a problem on the Ricoh AP3800 copier these last few days. The HDD failed a while back, and I replaced it with a spare I had lying around. It was accepted by the board and the system formatted it successfully, so I thought all was well, but all the functions which require the HDD are not working. The config page confirms it's present and working, but the machine behaves as if there's nothing there .... it's got be baffled, at least for the time being!
... with some dryer weather, at last, and Wednesday (2nd) was sunny and mild all day.
The better weather has prompted some maintenance work around the garden, mostly on the trees. January is a good time for this kind of work.
The pile of trimmings doesn't look that significant in the photo, but it will be a quite a job to burn up that lot!
It's grey and relatively mild today, and at least no rain is in the forecast for a while.
Have you sampled any of the live recordings of choral music featured on the Moments Musicaux page of the website?
Or there's a Christmas Carol selection available here.
